Concept to Contract: Launch Your Food Business This Summer
Concept to Contract is an intensive 8-week business development cohort for Detroit residents ready to turn a retail food idea into a market-ready business. Up to 25 participants will be selected for Saturday workshops running April–May 2026.
Graduates finish with a funder-ready strategic business plan, preparation to launch under Michigan Cottage Food Law, and a clear pathway to scale into commercial production. The program concludes with a June 2026 Graduation Fair where participants present their plans to potential funders and resource partners.
What you get: hands-on business planning, one-on-one technical assistance, free Manager ServSafe certification, and a free year in the Brightmoor Artisans Collective—plus discounted kitchen rentals, a free booth at our summer farmers market, and priority access to our shared commercial kitchen (completion required for benefits).
Eligibility: Detroit resident, commitment to all sessions, a retail food product idea, and eligibility for MDARD licensing. Food service businesses (e.g., catering or meal prep) are not eligible.
This is a one-time cohort. If you’re ready to stop planning and start selling, this program is built to get you there.
Applications are due by March 15, 2026
